BBC confirms false report about Ukrainian soldiers wearing Nazi symbols in their names

As the Russian invasion of Ukraine approaches its thousandth day, a number of fake reports claiming to have been produced by Western media outlets have appeared on social media and pro-Russian platforms. The fake reports are aimed at supporting the Russian narrative that the war is legitimate. One such fake report, for example, is circulating online with the BBC logo and claims that Reporters Without Borders has gathered evidence that Ukrainian troops involved in the counter-offensive in Kursk are wearing Nazi symbols. In August and September 2024, the fake report began to circulate in several European languages, including Hungarian. Reporters Without Borders called the video “war propaganda”. The BBC also confirmed to AFP that it had never made such a compilation.
