InfoGrund in the Digital World teacher training program – I.

The latest in-person session of the teacher training program InfoGrund in the Digital World took place on March 25-26th, 2023 in Debrecen, Hungary. The training started in February 2023 and aims to prepare participant teachers to train their students’ awareness and filtering skills during the consumption of digital content. The training program broadens students’ knowledge within the framework of critical thinking in order for them to confidently recognize fake, misleading online content and to be able to differentiate reliable, quality content.

The six-month teacher training consists of three phases. An online introductory session opens the e-learning phase, during which participants master the material of the nine chapters. The second phase is a two-day high intensity in-person session followed by the last phase, a teaching placement in the participants’ respective schools taking up 8 classes. The program is designed for classes of 7-11 grades, the pre-assembled teaching material for the teachers is tailored to the information processing and learning skills of both middle school and high school students. Both teaching packages allow for the development of critical media literacy through a learning material bult on practice-oriented, experience-based, groupwork-focused exercises.

The 12 teachers who participated in the training teach in 8 institutions in and around Debrecen.

The feedback about in-person session suggest that it passed in good spirits, the e-learning phase and the 2-day training prepared them adequately for the teaching placement.

„The training has well exceeded my expectations: sophistication, quality, diverse methodology and expertise characterizes the two days we spent together. Thank you for the respect you showed by taking both yourselves, me, and us seriously. Thank you for your hospitality, the cheerful atmosphere and good mood you created!” (Feedback from a participant teacher)
