AFP third HDMO fact-checking training marked International Fact-Checking Day in Budapest

The third fact-checking training done by HDMO partner AFP in Budapest took place from March 31 to April 2, 2025, at a classroom of the Institut Français in Budapest. During intensive sessions, the six participants could learn, and practice digital investigations techniques presented by two experienced journalists, Ede Zaborszky and Marion Dautry, from AFP Europe fact-checking team.

“What did I like the most about the training? Being given practical tools for fact-checking” (a participant)

While the trainers did share in-depth methods and tools, the participants were happy to have an opportunity to talk about what information and disinformation are, especially in the AI age.

The small group was a real opportunity for both trainers to assist them during the practical debunking exercises, which were described as “useful” by a participant. The training was so intense that even a different participant suggested including more breaks during the days.

All post-training suggestions for improvement will be definitively useful for the future.
