Contrary to the false claims spread by Bulgarian social media, the paternal great-grandfather of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was not the high-ranking Nazi officer Carl Albrecht Oberg. Von der Leyen was born into the prominent Albrecht family, but Oberg was not his surname. AFP has consulted archival documents which show that von der Leyen’s paternal great-grandfather was in fact Friedrich Carl Albrecht, a merchant from Bremen.
